Minutes of SBDM Meeting
January 7, 2008
Meeting opened at 3:54 p.m. with Kevin Medlin presiding. The minutes were approved as read.
Good News: Varsity Basketball is doing well. We have one student in the All State Band and three students in the All State Choir. Col. Lebeauf is now an official instructors of ROTC instructors.
Two students, Jon Holliday and Chris Diaz along with Mr. James Sparrow, AP presented a proposal for a new organization, Distinguished Gentlemen. This would be an organization for young men only. This group would perform school and community service and stress etiquette, dress code and they would be required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average. They passed out proposed applications and a handbook. After the presentation, a motion was made by Melissa Roberts and seconded by Ms. McCallum to approve the new organization. Motion passed.
Dr. Meng discussed the new mandated fitness assessment that the state will impose. Results will be used to track the health and fitness of students.
Dr. Meng discussed the upcoming exam schedule for end of semester testing.
The new bell schedule for this semester was reviewed and explained. This new schedule gives the freshmen and sophmores the same amount of time for lunch as juniors and seniors.
Dr. Meng discussed the new consequence for excessive tardies will be the right to refuse the TEA form necessary to receive drivers ed instruction and to apply for a drivers’ license.
Gang related clothing violations were discussed and explained. Gang clothing is ever changing and the administration has the right to determine if someone is flying colors.
Bomb threats will no longer involve the lengthy lock down process that has been in place. After a full scale sweep is done of the school, classes will resume.
Paschal is being evaluated this week for re-accreditation by the SACSCASI Quality Assurance Review Team. Their agenda was attached to our handout.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
