Wrestling

In Regionals James Anderson qualified for State and placed 4th in his weight class.  He is the only wrestler in the FWISD that will make the trip to State at the end of February.  Prior to this, the Wrestling Team came in 1st in District  and every one of our boys medaled!  In the prestigious Annual Tri-State Tournament at Lake Highlands High School they placed 3rd out of 25 teams.  Thanks for making us all so proud!

Our wrestling team has done it again ...Back to Back District Championships.
 

103 Kevin Ngyuen pinned his finals opponent in a dramatic come-from-behind effort

112 Connor Curtis dominated both opponents in taking first

119 Brandon Bito continued his impressive development from last year, taking second

125 Ethan Nash also took second, after winning a critical rematch with a Carter Riverside rival

130 Daniel Watson showed heart and intensity, taking third

135 Kyle Barbre wrestled his heart out, achieving third place

140 Alex Key wrestled an outstanding semi-final match, before losing a well-fought match in the finals to one of the best wrestlers
in the Region – 2nd place

145 Jesse Hernandez performed his usual technical masterpieces, taking first

152 Alex Carillo, a feisty first year wrestler with natural skill, won two matches to achieve 3rd

160 Frankie Martinez was the surprise of the tournament, overwhelming his opponents to win first place

171 Jon Withers triumphed in a rugged triple-over-time finals match, taking first place over a Carter rival

180 Spencer Key won two one-sided decisions to bring home another first

189 James Anderson continued to gain recognition as a force in the Region, dominating the field for 1st

HWY Keefer Klegg began competition with a quick pinned, and finished with an intense over-time victory, taking first

Final Standings: Paschal 294, Carter Riverside 271, followed by Western Hills, Trimble Tech and Arlington Heights

Update as of December 2008

The Paschal Varsity Wrestling team is off to a good start, despite not yet being at full strength. Our duel meet record is 4 – 1, and we recently placed 6th out of 25 teams in the prestigious 25th Annual Tri-State Tournament  at Lake Highland High School.  In that tournament, Matt Parker took 2nd place at 215 lbs, Alec Baker placed 3rd at Heavyweight, James Anderson won 4th at 189 lbs,  while other wrestlers picked up a substantial number of points in the consolation bracket.  Among them was Alex Key, who earned three wins in the tournament.

In Junior Varsity action, our future appears bright as Heavyweight Jeremy Lopez and 215 pounder Bulmaro Gomez won championships. Daniel Watson (125) and Kevin Nguyen (103) took 2nd place, while Rohit Chauhan (140) and Daniel Reiling (180) finished 3rd.

Leading the way in individual varsity records are Matt Parker (defending his All State status) with 9 wins against 1 loss. Alec  Baker, who is wrestling heavyweight at a light but muscular 220 pounds, is 9 – 3. Alex Key is 9 – 4 and  James Anderson is 10 – 4.  Others Panthers with winning records include: Connor Curtis (8 – 5), Brandon Bito (5 – 4) Jesse Hernandez (5 – 3), Frankie Martinez (3 – 2), Jonathan Withers (7 – 4), Spencer Key (5 – 3), and Travoy McCarver (2 – 0).
